Charged particle scattering in dipolarized magnetotail

The earth's magnetotail is characterized by stretched magnetic field lines. Energetic particles are effectively scattered due to the field-line curvature, which then leads isotropization of energetic particle distributions and precipitation atmosphere. Measurements at low-altitude spacecrafts are, thus, often used remotely probe current sheet configuration. This configuration may include spatially localized maxima curvature radius equator (due humps equatorial magnitude) that reduces scattering precipitation. Therefore, patterns related spatial profiles further determined In this study, we show that, contrary previous thoughts, line with maximum can actually enhance subsequent dipolarization (magnetic humps) significantly curve lines far from create off-equatorial minima in radius. Scattering these regions alters (and precipitation) patterns, has not been studied yet. We discuss our results context remote-sensing spacecraft measurements.
